KOLEJ UNIVERSITI INSANIAH
KUALA LUMPUR, Monday (February 22, 2010): Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad ("Bank Islam") together with Affin Islamic Bank Berhad ("AFFIN ISLAMIC") has successfully syndicated an Islamic financing facility of RM330.0 million ("Facility") on behalf of Kedah Sato Sdn. Bhd. ("KSSB"), for the construction and development of a permanent campus for Kolej Universiti Insaniah (KUIN), in place, Kedah.
Bank Islam, which was appointed Lead Arranger, completed the exercise with the participation of AFFIN ISLAMIC as co-arranger. Bank Islam's portion of the syndication was RM200.0 million, while AFFIN ISLAMIC's portion was RM130.0 million.
The Facility based on the Bai'Inah structure will be used to finance the total construction and development of KUIN and other related costs.
Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad Managing Director, Dato' Sri Zukri Samat signed for the Bank while Bina Darulaman Berhad Group Managing Director, Dato' Jahubar Sathik Abdul Razak signed for KSSB. Representing AFFIN ISLAMIC was Deputy Chief Executive Officer Tuan Haji Abd. Rani Lebai Jaafar.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dato' Sri Zukri Samat said: "Winning this mandate is especially meaningful for Bank Islam because the facility will be utilised by Kedah Sato for the construction and development of a new permanent campus for the Kolej Universiti Insaniah or KUIN, an institute of higher learning for Islamic studies in Kuala Ketil in Baling, Kedah.
"Incidentally, Bank Islam had also provided the financing for KUIN's present campus, comprising shop-house buildings, located at Lebuhraya Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar," he added.
Kolej Universiti Insaniah, which began as Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kedah ("INSANIAH"), was upgraded to University status on 14 May 2006 by the Ministry of Higher Education. It offers Diplomas, Undergraduate Degrees and Postgraduate Degrees in the fields of Shariah & Law, Usuluddin, Arabic Language, Islamic Finance & Banking, Engineering & Technology, Tahfiz/ Al-Quran, Creative Multimedia and Nursing.
Its current enrolment of over 4,000 students come not only from Malaysia but from other countries. The new campus is to cater for the expansion and growth of the college as well as the growing student population.
Dato' Sri Zukri also said: "I would also like to stress that the successful completion of the syndication is also due, in no small measure, to the strong reputation of Kedah Sato and Bina Darulaman Berhad, the parent company of Kedah Sato, which has been listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia since 1996."
Kedah Sato is a specialised "Class A" general and turnkey contracting company with
ISO9001:200 certification. It has established a niche in the construction of infrastructure projects such as airports, jetties, pipelines, dams, reservoirs as well as industrial and residential properties.
Its parent company, Bina Darulaman's track record as a builder and developer is equally impressive. To date, Bina Darulaman has completed more than RM2.0 billion worth of projects such as the Bandar Darulaman, the redevelopment of the Langkawi International Airport, the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital, the Kedah Medical Centre and the Trans Eastern Kedah Interland Highway.
